I Am the Night - Season 1
Description
Perhaps we are living in that series of interesting drama that also seems diverse as a visit from Bellis and the Los Angeles Police leaves Gee wondering how close he is to getting to the truth that is still hidden for everyone. On the other hand, animals must reconcile the discovery of Corinna and the suspicion that Corinna hides the mother of Fauna, Tamar, which seems more exciting and carries more secrets around him.

The miniseries attempts to sew together true events with fictional characters and storylines to mixed success.

There's no denying the spellbindingly ominous mood cast over six episodes as Night plunges its protagonists into a sordid subculture of sex cults and hip "happenings" that reveal the more tarnished side of Tinseltown.

It boasts a terrific lead performance from Chris Pine, but the story's much too slow to get going and doesn't deliver enough payoff to merit the wait.

Writer Sam Sheridan, adapting Fauna Hodel's autobiography, and director Patty Jenkins...sweep the viewer into their milieu from the very first shot.

Pacing can be frustrating -- this mini would be a lot more effective if it were cut to four hours -- but the surprises and twists in the final two episodes make it more than worthy of your investment.

Although the Black Dahlia case is still cold, there's no denying that the family connections that I Am the Night has been loosely based on are fascinating, yet creepy as hell.

May be a little too formulaic to be TV's next limited series with maximum impact, but it's well positioned to deliver the kind of entertainment that overly serious fare often overlooks.
January 25, 2019
You'll hate yourself for enjoying its seedy dark universe inspired by infamy, a place where you can get yourself killed for insulting someone's paintings. The fabulous avante garde score is, dare I say it, killer. Buckle up.

Even though the limp script leaves something to be desired, I Am the Night succeeds in of mood and sense of place.

The parts of the TV drama that stick closest to the facts are the most satisfying, and the two lead performances are equally strong.
